Which Floor Types Are Right For Your Custom Home?

Posted on: October 3, 2013

When it comes to selecting a floor pattern, you don't have to limit yourself to just one. Because the specific room where a floor is being added and how many people regularly walk through that room are both factors that should be taken into consideration, it makes sense to use different types of flooring throughout a home. For example, a durable surface is ideal for a room where your kids are going to play, while a more refined hardwood or carpet can work extremely well in a room that isn't as heavily utilized.

If you move into an existing home, you have to decide whether or not it's worth going through the process of pulling out and replacing any flooring that you don't really like. But with a custom home, you don't have to deal with the stress of that decision. Instead, you'll be able to have exactly the type of flooring you want installed prior to ever moving into your new home.

Since there are so many appealing flooring choices that can be added to a custom home, let's go over a variety so you can start think about which floors are the best fit for each room in your home:

Concrete

People who haven't seen the finished version of this flooring often wonder how in the world concrete can look good inside a home. But the reason finished concrete does look so good inside homes is because it's much different than what's used in outdoor spaces like parking lots. Instead of being gray and rough, finished concrete can be stained or stamped and then smoothed out to provide a lot of visual appeal.

Hardwood

This is a very popular flooring choice, and for good reason. To start with, it's very durable. Another big selling point is there are so many options you can choose. So if you want hardwood in the majority of your home but don't want every room's floors to look the same, that won't be a problem. Instead, you can choose from a variety of dark, mid and light shades.

Heated Floors

This isn't something you're probably going to want for your entire home. But for areas like your bathroom and the path you take to get there, this can make getting out of bed in the morning and walking to the shower a much more pleasant experience even when the weather is freezing outside.

Bamboo

If one of the reasons you're opting for a custom home is because you want to make it as eco-friendly as possible, bamboo flooring definitely meets that criteria. Because bamboo is a highly renewable resource that grows very quickly, you don't have to worry about having a negative impact on the environment. Instead, you can enjoy beautiful flooring that's harvested and processed in an environmentally responsible way!
