Do you love to travel? While traveling really is an activity that can give you a whole new outlook on life, after having an adventure in a place that's completely new, it's always nice to come back home and be in familiar surroundings. But just because you're in the comfort of your own home doesn't mean you can't celebrate your passion for making your way around the globe.

If you've decided that you're going to have a custom home built or are already in the process of having your custom home brought to fruition, you can integrate influences from around the globe into both its interior and exterior design. While you obviously want the look and style of your new home to have some cohesiveness, wanting to achieve a certain look doesn't mean you can't take influences from different places.

To see exactly how different areas from around the globe can influence the design of your new home, let's go over a few different examples right now:

Gardens

One of the nice things about having a custom home built is you can be sure that you're going to have plenty of space to execute the type of landscaping you really like. Some of the most popular international inspirations for a home's outdoor areas are England, Spain and Japan. Taking inspiration from English gardens can allow you to create a space that's your own little escape from stress and pressure, while touches like a Spanish fountain are ideal if you want your exterior to have a regal feel. And if you want big bursts of color, Japanese maples won't disappoint.

Hallways

As you move inside your home, think about the experience you want to create when you and others walk through the hallways. Mediterranean is one style that can work very well in this area of a home. Some of the elements that go with this style include wide openings, ornate arches and columns. You may also want to think about ways to bring natural light into your hallways.

Dining Room

A major reason that traveling to different parts of the globe is so appealing is because it gives you an opportunity to try completely new types of food. And even if you've previously had a style of food, nothing can beat going to the source and getting the most authentic cuisine possible. You can use that sense of excitement to help guide your decision about choosing a style for your dining room. Whether you want the type of simplicity you'd find in Japan or prefer the ornate nature of a breakfast room in England, you shouldn't have any trouble creating a dining area that your family and all your guests will find quite enjoyable.

While this is far from being a comprehensive list of how you can use global influences to pull together your own design scheme, it should provide plenty of inspiration so you can start thinking about exactly what kind of looks you want to create throughout your new home!
